One of the most ambitious films ever made in India is almost here. Ramayana: Part One, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, will release worldwide on 5 November 2026, in time for Diwali. Advance bookings open on Dussehra, 20 October.

    Release details

    • Release date: 5 November 2026, on the same day in India and overseas. An earlier international trailer had listed 6 November.
    • Languages in India: Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Reports say the film will reach audiences in nearly 40 languages worldwide.
    • Formats: all premium formats, including IMAX.
    • Part Two: planned for Diwali 2027.

    The cast

    • Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama
    • Sai Pallavi as Sita
    • Yash as Ravana
    • Sunny Deol as Hanuman
    • Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana
    • Arun Govil as King Dasharatha. He famously played Rama in Ramanand Sagar's 1987 TV series.
    • Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh as Surpanakha and Vivek Oberoi as Vidyutjihva.

    The team behind it

The film is produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios, together with the Oscar-winning visual effects company DNEG and Yash's Monster Mind Creations. Nitesh Tiwari is best known for Dangal (2016), one of the highest-grossing Indian films ever.

    Why it matters

The Ramayana has been told on Indian screens since the silent era. Dadasaheb Phalke's early mythologicals included Lanka Dahan (1917), and Ramanand Sagar's TV series became a national event in the 1980s. This new two-part version aims to bring the epic to global audiences with world-class visual effects. Its opening will be one of the biggest box office tests of the year.
