Deepavali is the biggest movie season of the year in Tamil Nadu, and 2026 brings a mix of devotional fantasy, dance and family drama. Four Tamil films are lined up for the festival, scheduled to arrive in theatres on 5 and 6 November. Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 is still running strongly.
1. Mookuthi Amman 2
- Star: Nayanthara, returning as the goddess.
- Director: Sundar C.
- Music: Hiphop Tamizha Aadhi.
- The sequel to the 2020 hit is said to be bigger in scale, with grand visuals and strong spiritual themes. Its teaser, titled "Rise of Mahasakthi", is also being released in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
2. Moon Walk
- Star: Prabhudheva, India's dancing star.
- Director: Manoj Nirmala Sridharan.
- Music: A.R. Rahman. He reunites with Prabhudheva after nearly 25 years, a pairing fans remember from the 1990s hits of Kadhalan and Minsaara Kanavu.
- As the title suggests, the film is built around dance and music.
3. Appa Kutty
- Star: Vijay Antony.
- Director: M. Maran.
- A father–daughter story mixing action, emotion and family sentiment, aimed squarely at holiday family audiences.
4. A fourth Tamil release
Reports say four Tamil films are scheduled for the festival weekend. The fourth title is expected to be confirmed closer to the date.
