Ranabaali, the romantic action drama starring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, opened in theatres on 16 October 2026. It is the couple's first film together since they married in February 2026, but its opening has been more modest than expected.
Day 1 figures
- India net: about ₹9.25 crore.
- India gross: about ₹10.75–10.9 crore.
- Overseas gross: about ₹5.4–5.75 crore.
- Worldwide gross: about ₹16 crore.
How it compares
- Vijay's last release, Kingdom, opened at about ₹17–18 crore net, nearly double Ranabaali's figure.
- It also opened below Liger (about ₹16 crore net) and the couple's 2019 film Dear Comrade (about ₹11.9 crore net).
- It did better than The Family Star (about ₹5.75 crore). That makes Ranabaali Vijay's fourth-biggest opening since the pandemic.
- For Rashmika, it ranks around tenth among her post-pandemic openings, a list led by Pushpa 2 and Animal.
Why the slow start?
Ranabaali arrived just a day after Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, which took most of the screens and attention, especially in South India. A sudden distribution delay also stopped the film from opening in Kerala on day one, even though a Malayalam dubbed version had been promoted.
The film
- Director: Rahul Sankrityan, who made Taxiwaala with Vijay and the acclaimed Shyam Singha Roy.
- Producer: Mythri Movie Makers.
- Music: Jakes Bejoy.
The first weekend will decide its fate. Good word of mouth could still help it recover.
Box office figures are early trade estimates (mainly from Sacnilk and trade analysts) as of 18 October 2026, and may be revised.
