Prahaar: The Ujjwal Nikam Story, starring Rajkummar Rao as one of India's best-known public prosecutors, opened in theatres on 16 October 2026. Its start has been modest in a crowded week dominated by Jailer 2.

    Day 1 figures

    • India net: about ₹2–2.35 crore.
    • India gross: about ₹2.77 crore.
    • Overseas: about ₹75 lakh.
    • Worldwide gross: about ₹3.52 crore, from more than 4,100 shows in India.

Trade analysts expect a first weekend of about ₹6–8 crore net. They say the film will need strong word of mouth and a good hold on weekdays to succeed.

    Who is Ujjwal Nikam?

Ujjwal Nikam is a senior Indian lawyer who has served as special public prosecutor in some of the country's most high-profile criminal trials. These include the 1993 Bombay bomb blasts case and the trial of Ajmal Kasab, the gunman captured during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2016.

    The film

    • Director: Avinash Arun.
    • Production: Jio Studios.
    • Cast: Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Lalit Prabhakar, Ashish Vidyarthi, Sikandar Kher and Nassar.
    • Story: it follows a prosecutor fighting a high-pressure case while dealing with professional pressure and strain on his family.

    The competition

Prahaar shares screens with Jailer 2, Ranabaali, Yami Gautam's Nayyi Navelli, Hollywood releases and the third week of Drishyam: The Conclusion. Early audience response has been mixed, so the coming week will decide its fate.

Box office figures are early trade estimates (mainly from Sacnilk and trade analysts) as of 18 October 2026, and may be revised.
