Rajinikanth has done it again. Jailer 2, the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer, released on 15 October 2026. Within three days it had crossed ₹300 crore in worldwide gross, one of the fastest starts ever for a Tamil film.

    Day-wise collections

    • Day 1: about ₹125 crore worldwide gross, including roughly ₹59.7 crore net in India and around ₹57 crore overseas.
    • Day 2: about ₹85 crore worldwide, taking the two-day total past ₹210 crore.
    • Day 3: a strong rebound to about ₹47.8 crore net in India, taking the worldwide total to roughly ₹317 crore.
    • India net after three days: about ₹145 crore. Most of it came from the Tamil version, with solid contributions from Telugu and Hindi.

    Overseas records

Jailer 2 is reported to be the biggest overseas opening-day grosser of 2026 for an Indian film. It went past the overseas openings of Dhurandhar 2, Peddi, Jana Nayagan and Drishyam 3. Advance bookings alone brought in about ₹30 crore overseas before the first show.

    The film

    • Director: Nelson Dilipkumar, returning after Jailer.
    • Cast: Rajinikanth as "Tiger" Muthuvel Pandian, with Ramya Krishnan, Vidya Balan, S.J. Suryah and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
    • Special appearances: Mohanlal and Shivarajkumar return, and Hrithik Roshan joins in a guest role.
    • It released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

    What's next

With a long festive season ahead and Deepavali releases arriving only in early November, trade watchers expect Jailer 2 to keep running strongly through the coming weeks. Its main competition this week includes Vijay Deverakonda's Ranabaali and Ajay Devgn's Drishyam: The Conclusion, now in its third week.
