Oil, gold and yields
Brent crude rose 1.4% to about $115.40 a barrel, snapping a two-day losing streak, and WTI rose 1.3% to $101.22, according to Bloomberg. It linked the move to a Wall Street Journal report that the US told several Gulf countries to be prepared for a short, intense military campaign after the midterm elections. Spot gold fell 0.4% to $4,044.59 an ounce, and the 10-year US Treasury yield rose two basis points to 5.02%.
The Fed tonight
The Fed is widely expected to hold its target range at 3.75% to 4.00% after raising rates in September. Its statement is due at 2 PM ET (11:30 PM IST), followed by Chair Kevin Warsh's press conference. Bloomberg said investors saw less than a 10% chance of a move this week but were pricing a hike at the December meeting. JPMorgan analysts said they expect at least two hawkish dissents, Reuters reported.
