As of 5:30 PM IST, Monday 26 October 2026. Figures are from Ather Energy's Q2 FY27 results (July–September 2026), announced on Monday 26 October, as reported by Autocar Professional, Moneycontrol, The Economic Times and The Hindu BusinessLine (Reuters). Year-on-year comparisons are with Q2 FY26.

Electric scooter maker Ather Energy has reported its first-ever quarterly net profit. Consolidated profit for July–September was ₹1.26 crore, compared with a loss of ₹154.07 crore a year earlier. The amount is small, but it is a milestone for one of India's best-known EV start-ups. Higher volumes, price increases and a better product mix drove the turnaround.

    A note on EBITDA

Reports give two different EBITDA figures. Autocar Professional and Moneycontrol report EBITDA of ₹74.2 crore, a 4.9% margin, against a loss of about ₹90.8 crore a year earlier. They describe it as Ather's second straight EBITDA-positive quarter. The Economic Times and CNBC-TV18's results feed instead show EBITDA of ₹11.3 crore (0.77% margin), against a loss of ₹133 crore. The gap probably reflects different definitions, for example whether other income is included, but HorizonDesk has not been able to confirm this from the company's own documents.

    Demand is outrunning supply

    • Customer enquiries rose 109% to about 10 lakh, and pre-orders more than doubled to 1.80 lakh, the company said.
    • The Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu ran at 98% of capacity during peak production in the quarter.
    • Non-vehicle revenue (software subscriptions, charging, accessories, spares and servicing) rose to 15% of revenue from operations, up from 12%. Ather said 94% of customers chose its AtherStack Pro software pack.
    • Input costs remained high for aluminium, copper, lithium and crude-linked plastics. Cost of materials rose 59.8% to ₹1,176.57 crore.

    ₹122-crore capacity expansion

Ather's board on Monday approved about ₹122 crore of capital spending to expand production:

    • Hosur, Tamil Nadu: capacity rises by 75,000 units a year, from 4.2 lakh to 4.95 lakh, by December 2026.
    • AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra (Factory 3.0): commercial production starts in phases from December 2026 with 5 lakh units a year, rising to 6.5 lakh units by Q2 FY28.
    • Total: about 11.4 lakh units a year across both sites by Q2 FY28.

    What the CEO said

"We delivered a strong quarter, with robust topline growth and a positive bottomline, despite surging commodity prices and supply chain disruptions," said co-founder and CEO Tarun Mehta. "Underpinning this is a shift to electric two-wheelers that is now structural and playing out across India. At Ather, demand has more than doubled year-on-year this quarter." He added: "With Konarc taking Ather to a wider set of customers, we see significant headroom for growth ahead."

    How the stock reacted

Ather shares rose as much as 18.78% to an intraday high of ₹1,643.85 on the BSE, then settled at ₹1,574, up 13.74%, The Economic Times reported. Moneycontrol put the close at about ₹1,575, up 14%. Earlier in the session the stock was briefly at its 10% upper circuit on the NSE.
